approach & style
Whether you are a professional singer, a singer-songwriter destined for the stage, a secret singer, or a total beginner who has never sung a note in their life, my approach will aim to take you to the next level, and bring out the very best in you. I teach within all musical genres and at a level that suits individual style, skill and ability.
Through delivering a combination of vocal, breath and postural techniques, I use my intuitive listening to guide my students to the place where they need to 'let go', enabling them to realise what their voice is really capable of.
I empower my students to fully own, refine, and love their voice and am passionate about awakening innate creativity and flair, facilitating the unique process towards free and authentic expression.
My approach can help in the following areas:
enhance vocal technique
By unlocking the incredible power of skilful vocal technique, you activate your voice to sing to its fullest potential. Good technique corrects potential bad habits that hinder your ability to truly let go in a performance. It also supports your voice, so you can sing safely, for longer and without strain. I teach my students many wonderful tips, tricks and exercises, resulting in transformations in quality of pitch, tone, feel and performance. Through this experience, they get an awakening sense of what their voice is capable of.
& self expression
Singing is a powerful medium for expression, and by focusing on posture, bodywork, limiting beliefs and other blocks and barriers (such as recurring negative thought patterns), confidence and true expression can be unleashed. The impact of the mind on the voice is quite astonishing, so unpacking ‘singers block’ is an integral part of the work I do.
unlock creative style
I facilitate my students in releasing unique self-expression, challenging them beyond their familiar comfort zone. A powerful way of unlocking innate creative expression is through vocal play. In every session I open up the freeing role that playful vocal exploration has on the whole voice and relationship it. It opens doors to songwriting, inviting creative discovery and spontaneous and unique musical compositions. This process can bring a great sense of personal power and a deepened sense of self-fulfilment.
align breath & posture
Establishing good posture in singing is of vital importance. Your body is your instrument and poor alignment or unnecessary tension can effect how well you sing. Good posture enables good breathing. With focus on body work, breath and body-connection, solid, lasting foundations are built for more powerful, effective and safe singing.
cultivate stage presence
It is so important to be able to engage and light up the audience you sing to, and evoke the emotions that the song commands. When you sing, you become a storyteller, using song as your medium. I apply my experience as a professional singer, to help my students tap into this ability and direct the rawness of their emotion into the song, whatever the style.
explore song writing & composition
I believe we are all creative by nature. You only have to look at most children to see this! Yet many have lost touch with this ability, and it is my passion to bring it out in all I work with. My students all get the opportunity to explore their creative potential through the incredible medium of song writing. I inspire them to realise their own ability in composition - writing lyrics, exploring themes, song structure and feeling tone. Another exciting alternative to song writing is song adaptation, and I facilitate this to ensure uniqueness in style, so as to avoid that carbon-copy sound.
showcase your talent
Four times a year I host performance showcase evenings, where all my students get the opportunity to showcase their talent and development. It's also a chance for them to grow in their confidence and stage presence, and for those closest to them to see them in all their glory! It can be a very empowering experience, and I consider it an integral experience to their overall journey through voice.
